The World Student Community for Sustainable Development is a multi-disciplinary network of motivated students with the ability to think and act both locally and globally, and who share the vision to make a difference. Our purpose is to be a leading international student organization that carries out meaningful projects which result in positive and enduring changes that improve lives and communities around the world.
The annual S3 summit has been hosted in different countries each year. – Switzerland (2006), Japan (2007), Canada (2008) and Switzerland (2009).
The 2010 summit will be hosted by Corporación Grupo Tayrona, in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. The event will take place on March 1 – 6 / 2011. It will also be the first time the S3 will be held in a developing country and in Latin America.
This event offers participants from all over the world a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of today’s challenges to sustainability and share their research, experience, creative solutions and projects on addressing those challenges. There would also be opportunities to network with peers, cultivate partnerships and enhance cultural learning through interaction with the diversity of participants at the event.
“Adapting and Mitigating Climate Change, Action in Developing Countries”, is the theme of this student summit and will be explored from the social, ecological and economic perspectives. This will provide an opportunity to analyse climate change, one of the greatest threats to the planet on local, regional and global levels, focus on vulnerability and impacts to developing countries and propose feasible, innovative solutions to the challenges presented.
Internationally renowned speakers, academic institutions, producers, environmentalists, technical experts and policy makers will be invited to share ideas and offer a truly global view on action to Climate Change.
The Summit will include one week of presentations, conferences, round-table discussions, parallel events and exhibits. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in community visits and local tours to learn about the culture and the country. The activities allow for sustainability learning while visiting the fascinating landscapes and natural environments of Colombia.
